Policy Assistant for Public Policy & Education/Workforce Development

Summary Description of This Position’s Work and Contributions to The Chamber’s Success:

The Policy Assistant (PA) for the Public Policy Department is primarily responsible for providing administrative support to the Vice President of Public Policy & Education/Workforce Development

 Essential Duties:

  • Assist the Vice President and provide general assistance to the Departments with administrative duties.
  • Staff monthly Council and Committee meetings (virtual and in-person) of membership and maintain rosters and distribution lists.
  • Monitor actions of public agencies
  • Manage calendars/schedules;
  • Coordinate meeting & event arrangements; help create meeting materials and develop content
  • Represent the departments as needed at various meetings or events, as assigned.
  • Help build and maintain website and social media presence for the departments, in coordination with Communications team
  • Help manage department newsletters to membership
  • Serve as liaison to Special Events team on Chamber events

 

Education Required:

Minimum:

  • Associate degree, required. Bachelor degree, preferred.
  • Please provide a short writing sample of no more than 2 pages.

 

Previous Experience Requirements:

  • Ideal candidate will have at least 3 years of administrative experience. Experience with a membership organization, preferred.

  • Experience working with diverse group of partners, donors and volunteers
  • Maintain a professional demeanor, be discreet, and exercise good judgement

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and ability to research on the Internet
  • General office experience in an administrative capacity, including strong verbal and written communication skills including proofreading, spelling, grammar and math
  • Experience using standard office equipment.
  • Familiarity with local, state, and federal government
  • Knowledge of local elected officials
  • Awareness of substantial local businesses and news items
  • Experience working with a CRM is a plus
  • Experience with virtual conference/meeting platforms such as Whova is a plus
  • Fluency in Spanish is a plus
  • Experience working with elected officials is a plus

 

Physical Requirements:

  • Must have reliable transportation
  • Must have flexibility for occasionally attending meetings or events or responding to communications outside of normal business hours.
  • Occasional standing and lifting of at least 20 pounds
